Summary of winter in the RGV

We’re back! Sorry about the hiatus. Here’s a recap of the last six months….

We arrived in the RGV (Rio Grande Valley) of Texas on September 30, 2009 and quickly settled into our first workamping gig at the park in Weslaco where we had spent the winters of 2007/08 and 2008/09.

John & I worked 4 hours each on Monday and Tuesday and another 2 hours on Wednesday morning. Soon after starting I agreed to “work” at another park in the afternoons. This extra job turned into “managing” the other park – yikes! More than I had bargained for, but the people there were fun and it turned out to be a good learning experience. However, because of the more-than-I-wanted time commitment, I won’t be returning to this post next season.

We enjoyed our other co-workers: bosses Joe & Fran, Bill & Sandy (whom we knew from previous years), Dick & Karin, Shirley, and Floyd & Cathy.

John’s sister, bro-in-law, his parents and John’s dad all arrived in November. Our Texas family was complete! John’s dad quickly settled into living alone again for the first time since before he was in the hospital the previous spring. We all stopped by often, but I do think he enjoyed some time to himself also!

John’s brother and sis-in-law drove their motor home over from Arizona for Christmas and Sam came again in late March to drive Dad home.

In early January, our son Eric, wife Kari and little Jacob came to visit for about 5 days. Such fun to see them and the little guy again! We made sure to get a 4-generation picture… P1010135…and did the same in February when our other son, Vance, came with his little guy, Sebastian, for about 10 days. More fun!P1010265

We also enjoyed several get-togethers with the Class of 2007 – several lunches and a fun boat ride on the Rio Grande River.

The weather in South Texas this winter was much cooler than usual. We experienced freezing temps on three different nights and much vegetation was damaged, including Dad’s papaya tree. Consequently our tans are not quite as dark as we had hoped – well, mine anyway…

Last day of work: April 9th – YEAH!!!!!!!! Time for some rest and relaxation!
